Brunei is a country on the north-west coast of the island of Borneo.

It is about 8 times the size of Singapore or 5 times the size of Hong Kong or twice the size of Luxembourg or roughly the same size as the US state of Delaware.

The population is estimated to be 400,000 people in 2010.

The weather is hot and humid all year round with seasonal variations in the amount of rainfall.

The economy is driven principally by the oil and gas industry. Unleaded petrol costs about 0.43USD per litre or 1.63USD per gallon at current exchange rates (2011).

The Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) is the official body responsible for promoting and organising chess throughout the country. The BCF has been organising chess activities in Brunei since the 1970s. We are a member of the World Chess Federation, that is FIDE, and an affiliated member of the Brunei National Olympic Council.
