YEE BRUNEI FIDE MASTER!

The Brunei chess players have displayed a very impressive performance in 8th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship in Pattaya Thailand. The U18 team, represented by Yee Soon Wei, Aliuddin, Amir Fakhry & Muhd Siraj keep on winning rounds that rewarded Brunei with Silver medal in the Standard Chess. Yee Soon Wei has clearly demonstrated his fine skills on par level with those foreign players having the FIDE Master titles. His continuous outstanding performance record in  Olympiad last year and in this tournament will entitle him for the FIDE Master now.

The Brunei talented ladies U16 team added glitter to the contingent. Siti Nur Fatimah, Ira Kartika, Siti Nur Fatin delivered consistent performance throughout the tournament, getting Bronze in all the way in Standard, Rapid & Blitz chess. Ira Kartika & Siti Nur Fatin both below 12 years old, showed their skills against their experience opponents, making Brunei proud of.

 

On the other end of the tournament hall, the U8 duo Muhd nabil & Paddy Koh played very well in Standard and Rapid games, surprising their opponents. They have established themselves as the players to be watched next year.

 

In addition to ASEAN countries, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka participate in the Championship, organized by ASEAN Chess Confederation. The tournament ended on 21th June 2007.
