PG ABDUL RAHMAN PLW YUSSOF, Vice
President of the Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) is confident the seven boys and three girls
representing the Brunei chess team will do well in the 9th Asean Age Group Chess
Championships from June 10-18 at Danang, Vietnam organised by the Vietnam Chess Federation
(VCF) and the Asean Chess Confederation.
The delegation is headed by Sabli Hj Metussin (BCF Treasurer) and is accompanied by Brunei
Chess coach IM Tair Vahidov and five parents.
The team are participating in Classical (60min), Rapid (30min) and Blitz (5min) chess
events.
BCF hopes that through this event, the youngsters will gain early international exposure
which will help them excel and be more competitive in the future.
"They have trained hard and are well prepared for this championship," Vice
President of BCF Pg Abdul Rahman PLW Yussof said.
"Chances for us to get medals is very strong," he added.
Pg Abdul Rahman said that the team has been training online (virtual chess) and have been
using the advantages of technology to improve their skills in the past few months.
"Through the Internet they are able to compete with chess players from all over the
world during training.
"We will try our very best to give these youngsters continual exposure to gain
experience of handling pressure during competitions and at the same time we are working
towards making chess more popular in the sultanate." |
